This week crews performed backflushing and flow testing of the dry hydrant in Coalmont.

PIO Diehl said, "Dry hydrants require periodic maintenance. One of the biggest needs is flushing the hydrant. Sediment builds up in them otherwise, and renders them useless. A lack of flushing ruins most dry hydrants. At some point the sediments become so compacted you can't effectively flush them without damaging the piping."
