At approximately 0200, Company 35's Technical Rescue team headed out with Boat 35 to assist with evaluations of flood stricken Centre County. The team responded to the command post that was set-up at Citizens Hook and Ladder of Milesburg. From there they were dispatched to assist with evaluating a nursing home, and doing safety checks throughout the impacted area. Water units from throughout Central Pennsylvania responded to the call for help.
Chief Taylor said, "It's strange to some that we would travel that far to help. On the contrary, it is what we do, and it the support that we give each other and the communities we serve. When you are trained to do specialized tasks, and you have the equipment you perform the task at hand. Our thought go out to those impacted and we're blessed that our crew returned home safely."
Flooding in the area resulted from a weather phenomena called training, where torrential rains kept moving over the same location. Localized reports of six to eight inches of rainfall was measured in the impact zone!
