Company 35 was out Saturday morning on a life safety and fire prevention exercise. Passing cars on Main Street were likely curious about the apparatus staged in front of Kelly Apartments, and wondering why all the ladders were thrown against the building.
People passing by will easily recognize the numbers installed on the windows at both Kelly and Gordon Apartments. These numbers will assist responders in making quick access to fires, residents with disabilities that would prevent them from leaving the building, and support rapid entry for rescuing unaccounted for residents.
Chief Taylor said, “This exercise was intended to help familiarize our personnel with the building. How far can we reach with the aerial unit staged in front of the building? What length of ladders do we need to reach all the windows? What is the length of the ladder we need to reach the roof. Additionally, the exercise was focused on improving life safety. We have a list of residents and the apartments they live in.”
While out the company took time to interact with some future firefighters! Thanks to all the personnel that made the day possible, to the residents for their support, and to Larry Williams for providing numbering templates.
