Saxton Volunteer Fire Company is home to Unit 15—an all volunteer organization, including our paramedics—that provides Advanced Life Support services to our communities. There are more than 50 active members (including drivers, emergency medical responders (EMRs), emergency medical technicians (EMTs), and paramedics (EMT-Ps)). We are privileged to have medics and personnel that are state-certified to provide instruction for new EMRs and EMTs, and for conducting continuing education. We are also able to provide in-house instruction for CPR certifications. On average, Unit 15 responds to 360 calls annually. These calls range from lift assists to cardiac arrests to broken bones to sick persons to assisting with fire calls such as motor vehicle crashes. Unit 15 also provides rehab services (checking vital statistics) of firefighters operating at fire scenes. This is part of the company’s commitment to “Everyone Goes Home” campaign, and complies with recently changed state standards. You’ll see Unit 15 personnel in the community assisting with football games, supporting special community events, doing blood pressure screenings, and participating in the annual Prayer Walk. Did you know that you can save on medical transport bills by being a member of the ambulance service? Did you know that we have reciprocal agreements with our neighboring companies? What does that mean for you? If for some reason we are unavailable to transport you, because we are out on another call, the other companies can’t charge you more than we would—that’s how that works.
