Saxton Volunteer Fire Company needs you to join our team!

 

  The Saxton Volunteer Fire Company has started a new recruitment program. While we are blessed with nearly one hundred dedicated volunteers, we still find a need for additional people to help us meet our mission in providing the best possible fire, rescue and EMS services to the seven municipalities in our first due area.

 

  We are desperately seeking new people to become active in our firefighting and rescue operations.  For those of you up for the challenge please visit us at the firehouse. It will be obvious the minute you step foot in the firehouse how serious we are about what we do. I might add you will also see how much we love what we do. We may be volunteers but what we do is the real deal just like you would see on television. Most of our calls are true emergencies where someone needs our help. We must be trained and ready to respond if we are going to make a difference; someone is depending on us to help them.

 

  If you join our team you will immediately begin your training to reach the qualifications needed to become an effective firefighter. Because our work is so important we will make sure you are properly trained and equipped. Working along side our men and women, you may be called upon to save a life at a moment’s notice, so it is vital we provide you with the proper equipment,  protective clothing, insurance and training. You will learn firefighting, vehicle rescue and numerous other skills to handle the many different types of emergencies we respond to. You’ll immediately be part of the action helping fellow firefighters make a difference in lives of our neighbors. You will be eligible to climb the ladder of professional certification very quickly with your first round of training preparing you for Firefighter 1 certification. This distinguished certification acknowledges you have met the qualifications to be certified as a professional volunteer firefighter. This honor is just the beginning of what you will be able to accomplish if you are truly dedicated to becoming the best you can be. 75% of our firefighters have obtained this certification and many have achieved several higher levels so they can better serve our people in their time of need

.Challenging yes, but also very rewarding! Can you see yourself climbing off the fire engine and working with your partner on a fire attack that will save the life and property of someone in our community or can you imagine the sense of pride and good will you would have after using the “Jaws of Life” to free someone trapped inside a car following a bad accident so they can receive the medical care they need to survive.  If this sounds like something you would like to be a part of them come on down to the firehouse and join! We need you!

 

  If firefighting or rescue work isn’t your game but you still enjoy helping others then perhaps you should become one of our EMS team members. This highly trained group of emergency medical providers is a vital community resource dedicated to saving lives and they do it just about everyday. We are 20 to 30 minutes from the nearest hospital so our EMS crews are the extended arm of the emergency room physician providing professional emergency care until our patients reach the hospital. Without the intervention of our EMS crews many lives would be lost, so becoming a part of this elite life saving team is truly an honor. We run a 24/7 on call schedule where members are on call and ready to respond to any medical emergency during their shift. As part of our on call EMS crews you would be given a schedule so you know what day and time of the week you are on call. You will receive a pager so you are automatically alerted by the 911 center when you are needed to respond to an emergency. There are several EMS certifications including First Responder, EMT and Paramedics. We will see you are trained to the level you desire and help you meet your goals all along the way. Training classes are local and are at no expense to you if you complete the training.  Ambulance drivers are also needed to complete our crews and training is also provided for people interested in serving in this capacity.  Our ambulance goes out the door almost every day to help someone in need. Shouldn’t you consider being on one of our EMS crews?

 

  Okay, so you’re not a “hot shot” looking for action and excitement but would still like to help your neighbors. Don’t worry we have plenty of options for your to consider! We would also like to attract individuals to help with the many support operations within the fire company.  Some of these tasks include driver/operators, fireground support, fire police, scene photography, fire prevention and fundraising activities. Other critical areas are apparatus maintenance, building repairs, and a broad range of administrative duties.

We offer a wide range of volunteer jobs, each with a high level of job satisfaction and personal gratification. All you need to do is offer time and commitment.
