SNOWY MORNING RESULTS IN DISPATCH FOR RESCUE 35

& FIRE POLICE FORE TRAFFIC CONTROL ON RT.64

 

Nov 21st - Heavy snow and icy conditions on Route 164 had numerous cars and trucks stranded on the mountain. Rescue 35 & 35 Fire police were called to handle traffic control until Penn Dot could clear the highway so that motorists could make it up the mountain. Crews were on scene for around 30 minutes and all units were back in quarters and available at 08:28 hours

 


TRUCK 35 WORKS CHIMNEY FIRE WITH CO.36

 

Nov 19th - Company 36 and Truck 35 were dispatched to a chimney fire in Defiance at 15:51 hours on Wednesday. 36 Command ordered the aerial raised to the roof for chimney extinguishment and cleaning. The truck crew also opened the roof around the chimney to assure there was no extension following the hot fire with the damaged liner. Truck 35 completed its assignment and reported back in quarters and ready at 17:20 hours.

 


RESCUE 35 CALLED FOR PHYSICAL RESCUE

AT CHURCH OF GOD ON 6th STREET

 

Nov 15th - At 17:19 hours Saturday, Rescue 35 was dispatched for a physical rescue involving a small child’s hand caught in a door. Deputy Chief 35 arrived at the church and found the child’s hand had been freed and placed Rescue 35 available before leaving station at 17:21 hours.

 


ANOTHER DANGEROUS PROPANE CYLINDER ON FIRE

 

Nov 15th - Company 35 was dispatched for another propane cylinder fire on Front Street at 01:17 hours Saturday. Chief 35 arrived on scene to find a 20 pound propane cylinder on fire in a grassy area off the street. The cylinder appeared to be cut from a neighboring gas grille and ignited with the valve partially opened. Engine 35 arrived and the crew used a trash line to extinguish the small fire. Fortunately rain earlier in the evening had dampened the immediate area around the fire and prevented a major grass and brush fire from occurring that could have spread and threatened and nearby structures. Local PD was on scene and the investigation into these deliberately set fires has now been escalated due to the inherent danger that could be caused by igniting this explosive gas. The call ended at 01:52 hours.

 


ROLLOVER ON ROUTE 26 NEAR RED CUT

 

Nov 13th - Company 35 & Ambulance 15 along with Rescue 36 were dispatched for a motor vehicle accident on Route 26 South on Thursday evening at 19:00 hours. Rescue Lieutenant 35-2 arrived on scene to find a late model Pontiac on its roof. The driver had self extricated and refused treatment after being assessed by 15’s EMS personnel. Rescue 35’s crew performed hazard control and cleared the highway. The call ended at 19:50 hours.

 


REPORTED DWELLING FIRE IN ENTRIKEN

 

Nov 7th - A full house response from 35 was due on a first alarm assignment with Company 3 for a dwelling fire off Route 994 near Entriken on Friday evening. Deputy Chief 3 riding in on Engine 3 arrived on scene with normal conditions on the reported kitchen fire. He ordered all incoming apparatus to stage on Route 994. Upon his investigation he found the fire to be out. Company 3 was held to ventilate the dwelling and Deputy Chief 3 placed the remainder of the box in service. All Company 35 apparatus were back in quarters and ready at 18:37 hours.

 


RESCUE 35 DUE ON THE 3-6 BOX WITH CO.3

 

Nov 7th - Company 3 and Rescue 35 were dispatched for a motor vehicle accident on Raystown Road in Lincoln Township on Friday at 16:00 hours. Deputy Chief 3 arrived on scene with no entrapment and placed Rescue 35 available while enroute to the call. Rescue 35 arrived back in station at 16:23 hours.

 


AUTOMATIC ALARM AT TUSSEY MOUNTAIN HIGH SCHOOL

 

Nov 6th - All companies due on the 35-01 box were dispatched for a general alarm at Tussey Mountain High School on Thursday at 16:44 hours. Chief 35 & Marshal 35 went on scene with normal conditions. No alarms were sounding within the school. School personnel advised that a total alarm system was performed about ½ hour prior to the call. The fire company investigation found nothing. The alarm company was called and the system was restored.

The box was placed back in service at 17:22.

 


WORKING APARTMENT FIRE ON MAIN STREET

IN SAXTON BOROUGH

 

Nov 3rd - The Bedford County 911 Center went straight to a second alarm assignment on the 35 - 01 box at 19:13 hours on Monday evening for an apartment fire on Main Street in Saxton. Chief 35 arrived on scene and assumed command of a working fire in a second floor apartment above the OIP Restaurant. Heavy fire and smoke were evident from the ‘D’ side windows. residents were able to escape to safety but were attempting to re-enter the structure to rescue their cats. Chief 35 had them clear the balcony away from the fire-ground operations calming them with a promise to try and save their cats.

Engine 35 laid a supply line in from the hydrant at 8th & Main and stationed at the ‘A’/’D’ corner. The engine crew stretched two 1&3/4 attack lines up a ladder raised to the second floor balcony and advanced through the apartment door on the ‘D’ side for the interior attack. The crew made a rapid and successful knockdown of the fire. Deputy Chief 35 radioed Command 35 of fire under control within minutes of the initial attack and assumed Division 2 Officer. Assistant 35-2 was designated as the Operations Officer and coordinated the actions of the staffing from the multiple companies on the alarm. Hydraulic ventilation was initiated by the engine company while the truck company opened up and performed overhaul operations. A salvage crew was assigned to cover the equipment in the restaurant on the first floor. Wagon 36 with Chief 36 was stationed on the ‘A’ side after laying in from 7th & Main serving as a secondary water supply. Rescue 36 provided scene lighting from Main Street. Rescue 35 and Truck 35 were set up on the ‘B’ Side and Department 5 staged at the command post for RIT. All other apparatus was staged in the Dollar General Parking lot with the exception of Engine 32 and Tanker 41 who were staged at 9th and Main and given the stand by assignment.

The quick and effective actions of the crews working the job resulted in containment of the fire to only the apartment of origin. There was only minor smoke damage to the adjacent apartment and minimal water damage to the restaurant below. The OIP is open for business today as normal. The cats were all rescued and returned to their owner in good condition. The incident was terminated at 20:41 hours and all apparatus was back in quarters and ready at 21:02 hours. A PA State Fire Marshal was on the scene Tuesday to investigate the cause of the fire. 

 

 

 


CAR IN THE CREEK IN COALMONT BOROUGH

 

Nov 3rd - Company 35 and Ambulance 15 were dispatched for an early morning motor vehicle accident involving a car into a creek in Coalmont early Monday morning. Chief 35 arrived on scene to find the driver had self extricated and climbed out of the water with no apparent injuries. Rescue 35 crew performed fluid containment and provided lighting for the towing service while the car was removed from the creek.  Chief placed the box back in service at 06:21 hours.

 

 

 


RESCUE 35 TRANSFERS TO HUNTINGDON

 

Nov 2nd - Rescue 35 transferred into Station 5 in Huntingdon to handle alarms while Department 5 and other first due companies were battling an apartment fire on the 5-5 Box. No calls were received and Rescue 35 was placed back into service at 21:18 hours.

 


WIRES ON FIRE ALARM IN SAXTON BOROUGH

COULD HAVE BEEN DEADLY

 

Nov 2nd - Company 35 was dispatched for wires on fire near 1000 6th Street just after midnight on Sunday. Chief 35 and other officers on scene discovered the wires burning and during the investigation a near miss occurred when a 20lb propane cylinder in a burning barrel under the wires llit off. The burning gas sent flames 20 feet into the air causing further damage to the telephone lines already on fire. Chief 35 discovered that someone had deliberately moved a burning barrel from its original location to nearby structure, ignited the contents and placed the propane cylinder in the barrel with an obvious intent to cause destruction. Local Police were called to the scene and their investigation is continuing.

 


RIT CALL WITH COMPANY41

 

Nov 1st - Company 35 RIT team was dispatched to a Structure Fire with Company 41 on Saturday morning. Chief 41 went on scene and determined RIT services not required and placed the team back in service at 07:27 hours.

 


RESCUE ASSIST WITH STATION 36

 

Nov 1st - Station 35 and Rescue 35 were dispatched for a rollover near the Coke Ovens on Six Mile Run Road early Saturday morning. 36 officers arrived on scene to find no entrapment and placed Rescue 35 available at 03:12 hours.

 


CO.35 DISPATCHED FOR POSSIBLE HOUSE FIRE

IN HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP

 

Oct 31st - The 3-6 Box was dispatched at 9:50 hours on Friday for a Structure Fire in Hopewell Township. The Huntingdon County 911 Center went direct with Chief 3 reporting the alarm company had called in reporting this to be a false alarm. Chief 3 held all apparatus on the box in station until he investigated. He verified the false activation and placed all units available at 10:00 hours.

 


EARLY MORNING ROOM & CONTENTS FIRE

ON THE 3-6 BOX

 

Oct 28th - A full first alarm assignment was dispatched on the 3-6 Box in Cherry Town for a house fire early Tuesday morning. Lieutenant 3 arrived on scene reporting a fire in the living room of the dwelling. Engine 3 & 35 arrived on scene together and their combined crews made a quick interior attack on the fire containing it to the living room area. Hydraulic ventilation was initiated immediately after extinguishment followed up with positive pressure to clear the structure. The walls were opened to check for extension with nothing found. The attack was supported by Truck 35, Squad 6 and Tankers 3 & 35 on scene with the remainder of the apparatus on the box staged on Route 26.  Chief 3 placed the box back in service at 04:33 hours.

 


RESCUE 35 and FIRE POLICE CALLED FOR TRAFFIC

CONTROL ON ROUTE 164

 

Oct 25th - Rescue 35 along and the 35 Fire Police unit were called for a traffic control assignment on Route 164 on Saturday evening at 22:26 hours. A car broke down on the way up the mountain blocking one lay of traffic. Rescue Captain 35- 2 placed Rescue 35 in service and left Fire Police control traffic until the towing service arrived and removed the vehicle. The call ended at 22:44 hours.

FIRE PREVENTION COLORING & DRAWING CONTEST

 

Oct 25th - From Left to Right front: Engine Sergeant Brian Wills, Katie Ness – Mrs. Rupert’s 2nd Grade, Kayla Storm – Mrs. Clapper’s Afternoon Pre-School, Chloe Soliday – Miss Brown’s 4th Grade and Fire Police Lieutenant Wayne Hammond, 2008 Fire Prevention Coordinator. Each student received a $50.00 Savings Bond and stuffed animal from the Fire Company, as well as being taken for a ride on the Rescue Truck. The students said the ride was fun.
