condition of the dog. A quick encounter with a ground
hog during the operations made things a little exciting
and it is expected this creature is what led to the
dog’s original confinement. Once the slab was lifted and
dirt removed from underneath the house, the dog was able
to get free and Sergeant 35-1eventually coaxed her to
the opening made in the floor inside the house. Bonnie,
the 14 pound Daschound appeared to be scared but

RECERTIFICATION CLASSES CONDUCTED BY
MEMBERS OF THE
SAXTON EMS TEAM
Aug 25th -
An
American Heart BLS/Healthcare Provider Class was held
two evenings last week. We had a total of 24 people
attend the two sessions. Ten on Thursday evening and
fourteen on Sunday evening. In addition to
demonstrating the required skills necessary to recertify
in the American Heart class, all of the students
participated in practice stations on suction, insertion
of oral pharyngeal airways, and oxygen use during CPR.
How to use an AED is part of the BLS/Healthcare Provider
class curriculum, and the students used two types of
demonstrator AED's to update those skills. We also took
time refreshing our knowledge on the use of the actual
AED's we have in service. The newest procedures for
opening a foreign body obstructed airway were reviewed.
All
students passed the required written examination. The
courses were conducted by our in-house instructor
Patricia Carnell. We all thank her for all her ongoing
efforts in keeping our certifications current and our
skills sharp!

TRAINING EXERCISE
AT H.A.C.C.
June 28th - 14 members of
the Saxton Technical Rescue Team
now part of the Pennsylvania
Squad 3 USAR Team attended a
special training exercise at the
Harrisburg Area Community
College on Saturday morning. The
exercise was handled as a true
incident with the team being
dispatched by the Bedford County
911 Center at 6:15 a.m. The team
assembled, checked their
equipment list and went through
their medical evaluations
according to team protocol.
Rescue 35 with the Technical
Rescue Trailer traveled to
Carlisle where they met the
Squad 3 USAR units and then
convoyed to Harrisburg. Upon
arrival the team was given their
instructions on the simulated
incident. Crews worked to set up
the Command post, establish site
communications and stage
equipment prior to going to
work. The crews worked all day
on Tech Search, breeching,
breaking, cutting, shoring,
confined space entry, patient
extrication and numerous other
technical rescue skills during
the event. It was a great day!
The Saxton Team would like to
thank Chief Gary Dennis, USAR
team leader and his entire Squad
3 team along with Randy Padfield
from the Harrisburg Area
Community College for making
this great training.
