ANIMAL RESCUE

Oct 14th - Rescue 35 and Ambulance 15 were dispatched for an animal rescue on Upper Ridge Road in Hopewell Township on Tuesday morning. Chief 35 arrived on scene to find a small dog trapped underneath the concrete porch of an abandoned house creating a challenging rescue operation. The Rescue crew under the direction of Captain 35-2 utilized hydraulic rescue tools and jacks to raise the 8 inch concrete slab. The operation also required cutting a hole in the floor on the interior of the house so the team could get below grade to verify the location and condition of the dog. A quick encounter with a ground hog during the operations made things a little exciting and it is expected this creature is what led to the dog’s original confinement. Once the slab was lifted and dirt removed from underneath the house, the dog was able to get free and Sergeant 35-1eventually coaxed her to the opening made in the floor inside the house. Bonnie, the 14 pound Daschound appeared to be scared but otherwise fine as she was turned over to her very grateful owners. The call ended at 11:42 hours.
